Accelerated Master's

Student FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about the accelerated master's program at ASU.

All current ASU undergraduate students are eligible to apply for a pre-approved Accelerated Master’s program. Acceptance to become a candidate differs among programs, but generally requires a minimum GPA of 3.0, among other requirements. An advisor for the program of interest can provide their program-specific criteria.

Most programs allow up to 12 credit hours of graduate-level courses as an undergraduate student that will count toward both your undergraduate and graduate degree program requirements. Please contact the advisor of your desired program for more information.

Students in the undergraduate portion of the accelerated master’s program pay undergraduate tuition. Financial aid awards for the undergraduate portion apply while the student is an undergraduate. Once they are admitted to the graduate program, they pay graduate tuition and have to utilize financial aid for graduate students. Students should contact Financial Aid and Scholarship Services to inquire about their specific aid and the requirements to receive it while enrolled in the AM program.

No, they graduate with their bachelor's degree prior to finishing their graduate degree.

The graduate-level courses completed to satisfy undergraduate degree requirements will still apply, and your graduation will not be delayed.

You will be granted course approval overrides by your advisor once you have been approved to be a program candidate.

Students have to still apply to the graduate program as part of the regular ASU graduate school application. However, some application requirements may be waived for Accelerated Master’s program students. The advisor can provide you specifics for their program.

You will become a graduate student once you have been admitted to the graduate program and successfully completed your undergraduate degree. This is typically the semester after earning your bachelor's degree.

Programs are added to the list once they are approved. If your program of interest is not on the list, you cannot pursue it as part of the Accelerated Master’s program. However, you can reach out to the advisor for that program to request for one to be approved so that you can participate in it (not guaranteed).
